Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronté

Inspired by ~RoboElfSuperLee's recent deviation Prague's Butcher [link] I have also decided to enter the Mr/Miss Doll Famous contest here: [link] Like ~RoboElfSuperLee, I think more male dolls need to be entered in these sort of things. Since you're allowed up to two entries, I made Field Marshal Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington [link] as well. The base is from Haven of Silindor: [link] I used this portrait for reference: [link]

The signal flags spell out "England expects that every man will do his duty."

Fun Information:

Through his entire career in the Royal Navy, Viscount Nelson was plagued by (and often complained of) sea sickness.

Immediately following his death at the Battle of Trafalgar (which he won), Nelson was placed in a cask of brandy mixed with camphor and myrrh. At Gibraltar, his body was transferred to a lead-lined coffin filled with wine. The first tribute to him was given by Russian sailors under Vice-Admiral Dmitry Senyavin. When his body reached London, he was entombed in a sarcophagus originally carved for Thomas Cardinal Wolsey.

So, what message is the admiral trying to give us?

I forgot to leave that in the comments. I added it. "England expects that every man will do his duty." It's the message he flew at the Battle of Trafalgar. It's the message he died under.

ooh hes just as awesome as your wellington!!! I love his badges, and his hat is amazing!!! As a said on my other comment him and Wellington look amazing together- great job!!!

Thanks. I'm thinking about putting them into the same picture at some point just for giggles, though they only met once, seven weeks before Nelson died, and Wellington, though a newly-returned war hero, hadn't come close to defeating Napoleon yet (obviously), so the medals might just be very off in that case...

despite them only looking once, the bright colours and style of them both makes them look really good next to each other :)) Ididn't actually know a great deal about these 2 so your info is great :)))

The other planned entry in World/Politics is Marie Antoinette, who is always pale, blonde, and wearing pastels. The bold colors should stand out very well.

Also gotta give credit to the fact that, although Silindor's Darius base is similar in size to Fainelloth's Mort and DHF's Oliver, he's a lot more muscular, which is appropriate for Wellington and Nelson, both of whom were very active and personally involved rather than being hands-off commanders.

A bit more historical information: During the Georgian period a man's calves were considered sexy. There were all sorts of padding and products for men to have nicer legs back then, sort of like women today wear control-top stockings and push-up bras. I actually thought of that in chosing my base.

Yeah, I think it definately will, and Marie Antoinete has been done to death, its kinda boring and not very origional.

What a great way to pick a base!! I went for Mort, because its easy and it had a nice variety of poses, that weren't as static as DHFs- Heydrich was pretty sporty too so I guess i missed that pickin a skinny base haha, it also doesn't really highlight his womanly hips either :)
:iconisbrealiomcaife:
THAT would require base modification. At least the coat sort of suggests that, though. I've never seen more than a face shot of him, though, so I wouldn't really know. I had to base the lower half of Wellington on a plastic toy version (kind of like Army guys for history buffs) and Nelson on typical Royal Navy uniforms.

haha yeah I think the coat and the crazy balloon breeches sort of suggest that, I've not seen many full body shots, and theyre often quite obscured by clothing and stuff, but I've read it in a couple of places haha, he also had a very high voice too!!
